Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Islamabad is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Islamabad, Pakistan. It is an ISO-certified organization that caters to the best practices and quality improvements in the examination system.
FBISE was established by the act of Parliament in 1975 to conduct examinations and to declare results at SSC (Matric) and HSSC (Intermediate) levels in the Islamabad Capital Territory, Gilgit-Baltistan, Federal Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA) and abroad as well.
The main difference between the Federal Board and other Boards of Education of Pakistan is that FBISE is authorized to conduct examinations in any city of Pakistan where its affiliated institutions are situated and abroad as well, whereas other Boards of Education are allowed to conduct exams only in their juridic-ted area e.g City or District.
Approximately 200,000 to 250,000 students appear annually in FBISE exams both at SSC and HSSC levels.

FBISE is committed to becoming a paper-free organization in the future.
FBISE is a pioneer in every new technology and ease of access for students and teachers as well. In 2021 FBISE started Online Marking called E-Marking of Answer Scripts. Now paper checkers/examiners can work from the comfort of their homes, they just need to log in to their dashboard provided and mark the questions on the screen. This is a revolutionary system for marking answer scripts which has been marked manually for the last 70 years. It gives transparency and efficiency to students and teachers as well. E-marking helps FBISE to provide results within one month after the conduct of exams.
