Threads has been around for exactly one year. Since its launch in July 2023, journalist Marcio Delgado has been interviewing business owners and marketing professionals who use the Meta-owned text-based platform to enhance their digital presence and drive business growth. The result is “Threads for Business – A Year Down the Road,” a recently launched book featuring hacks and learnings from over 100 people from around the world.

Although the app endured a massive dip in user numbers after initially signing up more than 100 million users in less than five days, Threads has bounced back and reportedly now has over 175 million monthly active users, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a post shared in July 2024.

“Writing about such a new app was a learning process for myself as well. The more I interviewed Threads users, the more I realized that it would be a long time before we could master it because the platform was constantly evolving, so it was a project always in motion,” reveals Marcio Delgado, who has worked with brands in Asia, North America, and Europe, where he is currently based.

Over the past 12 months, businesses have been slowly learning how to use Threads to engage with customers and promote products and services. This challenge has required great doses of patience, trial and error from those determined to make the most of the 1-year-old social media platform.

“Consistency remains the number one hack to grow on any social media platform, particularly if it’s new. The launch of Threads was the latest social media channel Social Media Managers and Marketing Managers have needed to adopt as part of their ongoing strategies. As a primarily organic social media channel (for the time being), brands should focus on building legitimate connections through being ‘human’ rather than promoting sales messages. I think the key with Threads, in particular, will be to stand out by creating content around real-life events, engagements, and trends,” says Jasmine McKenzie, a London-based Marketing Manager at EU eCommerce Agency Absolute Digital Media, and one of the dozens of professionals interviewed for “Threads for Business – A Year Down the Road.”

“Every time a new app comes around, companies need to learn different ways to convey a marketing message without alienating users. I believe Threads has been the perfect place to experiment with new formats, as tested posts that would work elsewhere, from Facebook to Instagram, would not thrive on Threads,” warns Marcio Delgado. “From repurposing content in an intelligent way to building and cultivating new communities around their brands, I was happily surprised to see how entrepreneurs have been embracing Threads for businesses, big and small.”

‘Threads for Business – A Year Down the Road’ by Marcio Delgado is now available on Amazon worldwide.
