Brazilian Butt Lifts: All You Need to Know North Texas Plastic Surgery

With time our ideas of beauty change.  In the 1980s, being rail thin and having a very straight up and down body was ideal.  Today, we value a slightly curvier look including a full round bottom that fills out those yoga pants.

What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian Butt Lift is a procedure that involves suctioning unwanted fat from your waist and other parts of the body and transferring it to the buttocks to give it a fuller rounder shape.  The “lift” comes from the volume added to the buttocks which makes the butt appear higher and the skin tighter.

The Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure

Under general anesthesia, your plastic surgeon will make tiny incisions and liposuction excess fat from around the waist or other areas of the body including the arms and thighs.  He/she will then purify the fat and inject it into the buttocks to provide the plump and lift.

The location of the injection is critical as fat injected in to the existing fat is safe but fat injected deeper into the muscles can carry significant safety risks.  For this reason, it is critical that your plastic surgeon have experience with the procedure and that they are board certified or board eligible with the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

The incisions are then closed off using stitches and the surgeon applies a compression garment that helps minimize the chances of bleeding.

Road to Recovery

Depending upon the volume of fat transferred, the amount of liposuction performed, and your overall health, you may or may not stay one night in our surgical center.  Following that, patients generally require pain medicine for a week to ten days and are able to return to work within two weeks.  There is no sitting on the buttocks for the first two weeks.  Following that, using a BBL pillow to protect the buttocks is important for the next 4 weeks.

Who Are the Best Candidates for a Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure?

While it is a great option to improve the shape and size of the buttocks minus implants, some patients are better suited to the procedure than others. Below are some of the factors that determine the best candidates:

  • Patients with a good skin tone in the hips and buttocks
  • Patients with adequate-to-excess fat reserves in different body parts
  • Patients who are willing to avoid directly sitting for several weeks

“You should note that this procedure is inherently complex and requires a surgeon with an eye for detail,” says Dr. Sacha Obaid of North Texas Plastic Surgery. “Therefore, it is important to do your due diligence before finding the right surgeon.”

Ideally, you should confirm how many successful Brazilian Butt Lifts they have done and whether they are board certified or board eligible with the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
