Ajman University’s Team Aoun for Community Service (Emirates Red Crescent Club) – under the Office of Student Life secured second place out of six participating universities in the 13th cycle of the Aoun Award for Community Service for the academic year 2024–2025, under the supervision of Jawaher AlShehhi, Head of Community Services. Organized by the Emirates Red Crescent Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the award honors outstanding community service initiatives across universities, educational institutions, nurseries, and schools throughout the UAE. This recognition highlights the growing spirit of social responsibility within the educational sector.

The Team was honored with a cash prize of AED 25,000 in recognition of its impactful humanitarian and community-focused efforts carried out throughout the year. The award ceremony took place at the Sheikh Zayed Theater at the General Secretariat in Abu Dhabi. During the event, students were recognized and honored by H.E. Ahmed Saree Al Mazrouei, Secretary General of the Emirates Red Crescen t Authority, and H.E. Rashid Mubarak Al Mansouri, Deputy Secretary General for Local Affairs, in the presence of senior officials and representatives from educational institutions across the Emirates.

Throughout the academic year, the Aoun Team (Emirates Red Crescent Club) in collaboration with the Community Services Unit, launched a diverse array of 30 initiatives aimed at supporting underprivileged families, patients, and orphans from low-income households. These initiatives achieved 1550 volunteering hours, with 1,236 volunteers, reaching over 6,500 beneficiaries.  The efforts included special events for orphans, National Day celebrations, charitable campaigns such as the Happiness Table and Eid Clothing Drive, dental care outreach programs for orphans, hospital visits, and blood donation drives held on campus. The club also organized the Iftar of Emirati Values event in collaboration with the Ajman Youth Council, and introduced the “Build a School – Draw a Smile” initiative to support students in need of educational resources.

The Aoun Team also introduced several innovative projects that reflect Ajman University’s forward-looking approach to community service. One of these initiatives, TechCare Mobile, The Mobile Goodness Clinic, aims to enhance humanitarian service delivery through smart digital technologies while training students from medical and technical disciplines to serve remote and underserved communities in a sustainable manner. Another standout project, LungiTech, utilizes artificial intelligence to detect pulmonary tuberculosis through radiological imaging, offering accurate medical recommendations and aligning with the UAE’s vision of advancing smart healthcare as part of its Centennial 2071 goals.

In addition to these impactful programs, Emirates Red Crescent Club recruited more than 700 new student volunteers during its participation in the AU Club Fair at Ajman University in September 2024. This achievement highlights the enthusiasm and dedication of students toward social engagement and community development.

The Office of Student Life collaborated with the Community Service Unit to support students in overcoming challenges and ensuring the successful execution of their initiatives. Their joint efforts streamlined procedures and facilitated the smooth implementation of the club’s programs.

This outstanding achievement demonstrates Ajman University’s steadfast commitment to cultivating a culture of giving, volunteerism, and social innovation. It also underscores the meaningful role played by its students in supporting the community and contributing to the UAE’s sustainable development efforts.
