At UNIK, our mission is to create sustainable support for mentally vulnerable young people who are facing the difficult transition into adulthood. Many of the young individuals we work with have undergone clinical OPUS programs in psychiatry, while others are foster youth who have experienced neglect and developmental trauma. These young people often have turbulent upbringings and are now looking for their way in life as adults—a transition that can be filled with significant challenges and uncertainties. At UNIK, our goal is to ensure they receive the necessary help to navigate this transition in a way that strengthens their mental health and their ability to thrive in adult life.
Our Comprehensive Support Programs
UNIK offers a range of holistic support programs tailored to the individual needs of these young people. We provide both psychological and psychotherapeutic help, network groups, peer-to-peer communities, and access to a safe, recovery-oriented environment. Here, young people have the opportunity to share their experiences with others in similar situations, build networks and relationships, and receive professional support to process their past traumas.
A crucial aspect of our work is meeting young people where they are, both mentally and socially. For many of them, the transition into adulthood is a time when they face significant societal expectations that they may not feel ready to meet. These expectations can include education, employment, building new relationships, and taking responsibility for their future finances and lifestyle. Our job is to equip them with the tools to manage these challenges effectively.
The OPUS Program: A Lifeline for Young Adults
Our OPUS program is designed for young people aged 18 to 35 who have completed clinical OPUS programs in psychiatry. Many of these young people have experienced serious mental health conditions, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, and need long-term support to reintegrate into society. The OPUS program offers an extended recovery process that not only focuses on mental health but also strengthens young people’s social skills and their ability to form healthy relationships. Here, young people can work on their self-esteem and confidence, enabling them to navigate adult life with greater security.
We offer individual therapy, group sessions, and practical guidance to help young people take responsibility for their lives. This can include everything from finding housing, strengthening their networks, or assisting them in managing their education or career opportunities. The transition from an OPUS program to mainstream society can be overwhelming, and we are here to ensure that young people are not left to face their challenges alone.
OPUS Young: Helping Younger Vulnerable Youth
For younger individuals, particularly teenagers, we have developed the OPUS Young program, which caters to young people aged 14 to 20. These youth often undergo intensive clinical treatment and are now facing the challenging transition from psychiatric care to everyday life. OPUS Young offers support on multiple levels—from psychological help and peer support to counseling and practical guidance. We work closely with the young people to ensure they receive the support they need to establish a stable foundation for their future.
Support for Foster Youth with Traumatic Experiences
Another key part of UNIK’s work is our efforts to help foster youth who have experienced neglect or developmental trauma. These young people have often endured difficult childhood experiences that affect them mentally and socially, and they frequently find themselves alone when they leave foster care or institutions. At UNIK, we provide therapeutic support, counseling, and peer communities that offer these young people the chance to process their past and find a path forward. We create safe spaces where they can develop and build the skills necessary to succeed as adults.
Our support for foster youth is made possible through partnerships with several foundations and initiative funds. This collaboration allows us to offer ongoing, targeted support that addresses the unique needs of each young person.
Social Sustainability and ESG Partnerships
At UNIK, we are deeply committed to delivering socially sustainable solutions for vulnerable youth. We believe that the best way to help these young people is by creating long-term changes that empower them to become independent and succeed in adulthood. Therefore, we work closely with ESG partners who share our vision of creating positive changes for disadvantaged groups in society.
Our collaboration with ESG partners enables us to provide innovative and sustainable solutions that not only assist young people in the short term but also ensure that they gain the tools needed for long-term success. For us, social sustainability means creating a future where these young people can stand on their own and contribute positively to society.
The Ministry of Health’s Crucial Support
UNIK’s work is supported by the Ministry of Health, which allows us to continue our important work in supporting mentally vulnerable youth. With this support, we can expand our services and assist more young people in navigating their recovery processes and transitioning into adulthood. Our collaboration with both public and private partners ensures that we can provide comprehensive and long-term support that makes a real difference for the young people we serve.
A Brighter Future for Mentally Vulnerable Youth
Every day, we see the difference our work at UNIK makes in the lives of the young people we support. By offering them a safe, recovery-oriented community and professional help, we assist them in regaining control over their lives and finding a way out of the challenges they face.
